Average processing time is 12 months. In your case, that would mean May 2019. Recently they've been doing it a bit faster so some people finish at around the 10 month mark, but it's still definitely too early for you.

Applying for a visitor visa will not affect your PR application in any way, but it's generally difficult to get one in your situation as having a spouse in Canada and a PR application in process makes you an overstay risk. So make sure you have strong ties to your country to make chances of getting the visitor visa better.
what does it mean to have strong ties in my country?

Having a job, being enrolled in a university or some other educational program, owning property or businesses, having close family there (such as a spouse or children), etc. Good travel history also helps (showing that you traveled in the past and never overstayed anywhere).

Like I said, average is 12 months.

They've been changing things around recently and requesting medicals earlier than normal - they used to request them at around the 6 month mark (basically in the middle of the process) and these days it happens earlier. But none of it has any effect on the full duration of the process. Whether you do your medical during the second, fifth or ninth month of the process, the average remains 12 months and has been that way for a long time.

Background check is the last step of the process usually and tends to be the one that takes the longest to complete.

Either way, you're still way too early. I wouldn't expect anything before March (if your case is simple and you end up being one of the faster cases), but ideally you should just count on the average (May 2019 for you) so you don't stress yourself out unnecessarily.

Thank you so much!
In fact, as i read on different websites, forums and people in the same situation, i thought it would last 3 to 4 months after medical records.

Thank You again.
Regards

Hi guys, I have a question, we already received my wife's OWP in the mail and she has a Visitor's Multiple Visa valid until 2026. Can she re-enter country without any problem? She's been staying with me for a year now. I am a Canadian citizen. She just needs to go back to her country for 19 days to attend an important matter.

I've read this in their website.

Can I leave Canada while IRCC processes my application for permanent residence?
Yes. However, if you leave Canada while your application is being processed, you must meet all the admissibility rules before being allowed back into Canada.

If you leave Canada and want to return, you must have all the required documents to enter. This can include:

If you are unable to return to Canada, we could determine that you abandoned your application. In that case, we will not process it.

Is my wife qualified? Thank you in advance.

Hello. After the medical is the background check. This is usually the last but longest stage of the application.
Just received an email fron them containing that the case processing centre has forwarded my hubby's application to the local visa office (Manila, Philippines). does that mean the isa office will process it again to make a decision whether or not his application will be accepted or rejected? And how long does it take?

There are different steps completed by the local visa office. The local visa office assesses your relationship and performs the background & security checks. You should expect the entire process (from the time you first submitted your application) to take around 12 months.

When did they start needing a cover letter? I never had to send one...?
I read somewhere that we should give summary of the application and also need to write about our story.. how did we meet and all.

Just means that your file was transferred. This is very common. Once it's transferred, they usually begin the background check and the medical. You can check your current status online with ECAS or gckey :)
