Hi guys.

I submitted my wife's application on May 6th. Haven't gotten a response yet. What is the normal time for CIC to get back to us with an AOR?

45 to 50 days
Does it take that long for them to even acknowledge that they received the application? If they had to reject it for incompleteness, would they do that before that time?

There are 2 copies of COPR (IRRC copy and Client copy). Both have a signature line at the bottom for PA to sign. Should my wife sign them or are these to be signed at immigration at Toronto airport?

One year waiting period is from the date of application submitted or when they give you the application number after 45 to 50 days?

Hi everyone,

I am a new immigrant and I got my PR in May 2019. I am single but my marriage is InshaAllah being finalized. It's arranged.

*** Reading all the comments is very shocking for me. I have lived in Saudi Arabia all my life and they seem to treat newly weds more humanely than Canadian system sadly***

My questions:

1- I still have a year before getting married. Should I do Nikkah and start my process?
2- I still live in Saudi Arabia. So can I apply to sponsor my Wife from Overseas? or I cannot apply until I have started living in Canada?
3- Can I apply for a visit visa for my future wife. How does the Canadian system expect newly weds to live separately for more than a year. What kind of law is this ?

Thanks

It used to take 3 years not long ago. They recently 'reformed' the system and now it takes average about 10 months to 16 months depending on ur case and luck.

This is ridiculous.
Anyways, can you advice me on my questions please. How should I go about it so that I can reduce the time
Also what about visit visa?

Being a PR you cannot sponsor spouse from outside of Canada.
Who is eligible to sponsor their spouse, partner or child
You can sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent child if:

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
    • If you’re a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when the persons you want to sponsor become permanent residents.
    • You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside Canada.
  • You’re able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability
  • you can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor
Go through the instructions here and follow the process as it says and you should be good. Published processing time is 12 months:

Thanks.
So the link states that there is no income requirement if I am sponsoring spouse only. Will that affect my application in anyway if I am not working?

Secondly I am planning to do Nikkah first and then wait a year until completing events and Valima. Can I apply using Nikkah so that I can process my wifes documents. That is after moving to canada permanently which is the first condition.

and what is the possibility of Visit Visa for my wife once my Nikkah is done?

There is certainly no income requirement but at the same time you should not be on income support.
You can apply basis on Nikkah, however I suggest to have a proper ceremony for that along with photographs. Do expect extra screening for not having rukhsati done.
Visit visa is possible for chances will be very slim. Usually applicants with PR in process are denied but then again there have been exceptions, so you gotta try your luck.
