Depends on the validity of your visa
One needs to land before the expiry of his visa (it can be even five days before expiry). But after getting a PR card with a validity of 5 years, for renewal of the card, you are supposed to be physically present in Canada for 730 days from the date of permanent residence (the date you landed in Canada). Means once landed, during immediate next five years, you can stay outside Canada for three years without losing your permanent residence status.

Time spent living in Canada
When you are a permanent resident, you can live outside of Canada, but must live in Canada for at least two years in a five-year period. If you live outside of Canada for longer, you may lose your permanent resident status.
