Does anyone know if my husband would have a problem re-entering Canada if he has an open work permit that he received after we got the approval in principal?
We're April 2016 applicants and after we've submitted requested additional documents in June, we haven't heard back since. We don't know how long it's going to take and wonder if we leave Canada if he can re-enter with no issues since he was out of status at the time we applied for his permanent residence.
Thank you!

I wouldn't leave. Especially, since he has a history of not leaving. I would be waiting until the PR Card is in hand -- as that will be a major red flag -- non-compliance. If they choose not to permit re-entry (chance they wouldn't), then the application would be refused.

Aren't you a Senior??? Seniors study for free at Canadian Uni's..
says who? I've never heard that one. I am currently evaluating the available resources to see what I might be able to utalize

You have to be >60, and each Uni does it a little differently. Western; out your way; has this to say:
http://welcome.uwo.ca/admissions/admission_requirements/mature_and_senior_applicants.html

Meanwhile, York and Ryerson says:
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.thestar.com/amp/business/personal_finance/retirement/2012/04/19/york_ryerson_offer_free_tuition_for_seniors.html

And McMaster:
http://future.mcmaster.ca/admission/process/senior/

Etc. It's legit. It's a thing. Google the Uni and 'seniors'.

Hi everyone, my husband landed on Monday. Yay!

Just wanted to update regarding the CSIS request - we heard back from them yesterday. Apparently our security screening started in October 2016, we made our request early August and they completed security screening around 2 weeks after receiving our request - that's 10 months for security screening. I have a feeling that we were forgotten somewhere and the request made them pick up their pace. Our VO must have rushed our case after - we received no DM letter and the landing interview letter came 8 days after security screening results were forwarded to IRCC. Hope this is helpful for anyone who may consider making a request to CSIS!
Congrats

Can you share your timeline?

It was also a first for me, I never heard about that before.
It even seems to be from 50 years old for Laval university (Quebec city).

SEE @meaningful1!

I didn't know until my mom retired and said she might go back to school.... I laughed at her and said the pension isn't THAT great...then she told me about it.

@sylvain1 it makes total sense to me. What are the chances that a senior would do the studying for more than bettering themselves? Even if they re-entered the job market after, there isn't anything to be lost by allowing them to study at publicly funded Uni's. The part I liked, is that it seems to be open to Citizens and PR's (at least from the few that I checked). As long as you paid taxes, and have status..

Hey!!!!!
Just 50, not the senior lol
Good morning to you. . .
And to you. That's not a senior -- that's still a puppy! Why did you let me prove you could go to school free then?! ;)

How far are you from 50? Let's do the math here.
Do you think Donald Trump will still be alive when you get to 50? Lol
I don't know where u get all the information you have . . but thank you:D

If he lives to 84, sure.
The only way to get this information is: ask; or cerebral downlink. But exercise caution on the second option.

Lucky for us, we get a surprise visit from the Public Safety ministry for a compliance check.
