An update:

Talk to the MP today, my wife has been given 'approval' to immigrate to Canada, assuming her latest medical check comes back clear. We re-did the medicals last Friday, so we should be done in a month or two. Thank god.

Congratulations! A light at the end of the long, dark PR tunnel.

Any idea why it took so long? I'm plugging away through these forms and hoping to avoid any possible errors and delays. Will probably have some questions soon, I'm just trying to work out as much as I can on my own research first.

we did have to re-do the police check, so make sure that is correct, but that was the only issue. Why the delay? Honestly, I think the strike and overload in Manila are the main reasons.

My advice to you, Manila's timeline currently is 15 months, and only seems to be getting longer. I honestly would not:

A: don't do the medical check now, almost for sure your spouse will have to re-do it at a later time

B: not move to Canada early, well, at least not for the first year after your submit your application.

Good luck with yours.

Has any consensus been developed on the correct Korean police cert.? Seems that the most important thing is that it has the lapsed records search.

My only concern with not doing the medical check upfront is having the entire package returned as incomplete.

..back to the working holiday visa issue. I understand it shouldn't be an issue for her entering Canada with an ongoing PR application.

Should we mention the WHV visa in the PR application itself? Specifically for the questions on the Sponsored Person Questionnaire about our marriage. We were going to have a reception/party here for friends and family who couldn't make it to Korea when she comes on the WHV.

There's no concensus because it seems CIC hasn't yet realized that the Korean police have changed their process. IMO the best way to avoid the problem is to submit both types of checks. Barring that, I agree, the important thing is to ensure that the search result covers all 3 databases.

My only concern with not doing the medical check upfront is having the entire package returned as incomplete.
I tend to agree. Submitting the package without the medical check is very risky. It seems Manila is processing Korean applications faster these days, so it's probably wiser to submit the medical upfront.

Where do you think you should mention this?

In all honesty, not sure if there is a point in doing the medicals upfront now. Manila's timeline is now up to 15 months and it seems to only be getting slower and slower over there. Just my two cents.

Just checked my wife's file on CIC website,

It has changed to 'in progress'! we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

To amjad1002

Manila is very slow it seems, although others say it is speeding up. It really is a guessing game, I honestly don't know what to tell you.

On form IMM0008 #11 it asks about 'Date and place of last entry to Canada' but the box is greyed out and can't be typed in because current country of residence is Korea. Did anyone write this is by hand if your wife/husband visited Canada at all?

Did anyone include forms that didn't apply to them in the final package? There are some forms such as Use of a representative and Additional Dependants that aren't applicable to us. Should we still be sending them but with NA written on them?

Cheers

From what I've read if your decision has been made it should be 2-3 weeks I think. More experienced posters will probably have a better idea though.

Use of a rep, don't need to do that if you aren't using one.

Additional Dependants, fill it out as 'none' and submit it.
