Hello everyone! Will be grateful for your help!

Here is the thing –– my spouse has a father who is a Canadian citizen. Father is alone and divorced, he has no other relatives in Canada. Can he be in a position to sponsor my spouse who is 30 (and me as well :)?

I mean, I've read Canada.ca, I can see that my spouse is not a Dependant child. But there is a thread telling that a Canadian citizen can sponsor any relative related by blood if he has no other relatives in Canada. Is that really possible and leads straight to PR?

Thank you for your options and opinions!

Are either of his parents still alive?

How did he obtain PR? Was your spouse declared in his application and medically examined?

His mother is alive but she's not in Canada. Father has obtained PR long ago, my spouse was about 3 or 4 years old, actually. He said nothing of the sort.

In that case it's not possible for him to sponsor your spouse and yourself. Both his parents would need to be deceased for sponsorship to be possible.

I see. Well that's not what I wish to happen anytime soon, God bless her health.
Thank you so much for your help!

Note that if his mother passes away, whether sponsorship is possible will depend on whether your spouse was declared in his application at the time he immigrated and if she was medically examined at that time as well.
