Hi everyone, my wife is sending out her study permit extension in a few days and we are thinking of including my SOWP and kid's SP and VV in the application. Someone here mentioned that such an application gets delayed while another person outside this forum is of the opinion that it does not work. kindly advise as my search online has not yielded any tangible results.

When does your spouse’s current SP end? When it you spouse’s program end? Are you and your child currently in Canada with OWP and SP already or are you abroad and applying for the first time?

Her study permit will expire on the 31 July 2023. We are currently in Nigeria and this is our first time of applying. She is on a 2 years program.

When does her study permit expire? If her program ends July 31st you may have not heard about your OWP before then and you need 6 months left in your spouse’s studies to get an OWP. Would wait and apply for an OWP and study permit for your child (if they are 4 or older) until your spouse applies for PGWP and has a job and paystubs to qualify to sponsor a spouse.

No, she has 14 months left.

There should be no issue when it comes to submitting your OWP and your child’s SP applications at the same time. Your spouse will be on implied status if her study permit expires while waiting for a response so even if it takes slightly longer it shouldn’t be an issue. Given that each of the applications are processed separately there shouldn’t technically be any difference in processing times with or without including your OWP and the SP. During implied status your spouse will need to remain in Canada or they will have to wait until they have their new study permit to return to Canada. Processing times are quite long these days so I would apply as soon as possible.
