I just have a question about the soft landing. I've been reading a couple of soft landing experiences here and noted that almost all people who made the soft landing returned to the US IMMEDIATELY. The boarder officers seem interested in this question and asked this very often.
Why did majority people chose to return immediately and what's the benefit of doing this (i.e. easier to get a successful landing?)
What if I tell the officer that I want to walk around by staying in a hotel to explore the area OR see a few open houses to prepare for the permanent move? Do the officer like IMMIDIATE return MORE THAN traveling around for a few days?
My questions assume no covid situation so no discussion about quarantine is considered here.
Any insights are appreciated.

What do you mean by "no covid" situation? You mean that you dont have covid hence thinking you can ask on exploring areas and open houses?
Either way, i dont get the logic in roaming around the country when there is pandemic and Canada is one of the countries having strict rules on travelers.

It doesnt matter what i think or what you plan. There may be officers allowing people to return but you should plan on quarantine and definitely not planning on roaming. If you are spotted on making stops and roaming then you would be fined and penalized heavily for breaking quarantine rules. Its very serious and dont take it lightly by even thinking on telling about roaming around the country. Dont risk your entry itself - You might even get denied entry for this time and will be asked to come back another time.

You need to plan either to ask if you want to return immediately after landing or complete quarantine and return. Both cases should not involve roaming the country.

Your plan should only be based on how much they have relaxed on quarantine rules https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid. Currently there arent any.

What is seriously wrong with you ?
Assume no covid situation? Like when would that be ?

Back in the pre-COVID era, people could roam around in Canada for a day or two or just get some Tim Hortons’ after landing. After all, you become a permanent resident of Canada at that point and it is your RIGHT to be in that country. The officers can deny your landing but it looks like they rarely do so unless there are major changes to your situation after your COPR has been issued.

Right now, we only have the choice of turning right back or providing a quarantine plan for 14 days.
