Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
You may or may not get an AOR from Vegreville :(
Sit back and hold on for the ride... current processing time for Stage 1 Inland is currently 11 months as per CIC website
I wouldn't expect to hear anything from for quite a while

here is the link to current processing times

Getting an AOR letter can range from 3 weeks to 3 months after CIC received your application. 3 weeks based on 2013 applicants to 3 months based on 2012 applicants. To be honest AOR is pretty much meaningless to me. Your courier tracking number of delivered date is just as good as an AOR.

No one seems to know exactly what is suppose to happen when AOR is issued. I think the consenus is that CIC has opened your application package, reviewed the forms to make sure all the minimum forms/documents are completed in full and signed. If application is not completed in full, they may send it back with letter saying what needs to be done before resubmitting it again. Once the application is reviewed and accepted as completed and signed, they they will issue the sponsor the AOR email.

3 weeks to 3 months... 3 weeks based on 2013 - that means that I might get it soon... but who knows :S

I do have the tracking number... i'll keep that in mind.

To me, AOR means they have physically received the package, opened it and nothing major is missing. I will watch for the email :)

Thanks guys!

We got ours by snail mail, despite stating that we wanted to receive correspondence by email. Then AIP and DM came by email. I'm an October 2012 applicant, and it took about three months for us to receive the AOR letter.

Thank you..that was really helpful

My girl is freaking out because its been just over 2 weeks and no word. I told her that she cant be worried and upset every day.... because it could be a very long time until its opened!

also,

I called the CIC today..they said that "they were opening envelopes that are dated oct 20th 2013." ..so i should expect my AOR in about 2-3 weeks.

Interesting

Do you mean August 20th??

I sent mine in Aug.14th and have not rec'd AOR. Ppl who have sent theirs in Aug.28th have rec'd their AOR's...

I called CIC last week, and she told me they were opening Aug.8th envelopes.....and I'd have to wait another few weeks......even though I knew thru this forum that they had opened ones rec'd after mine. She said everything is on track and nothing to worry about. I think I will call back tomorrow...

She did give me a file #, because me being a Canadian, I have no UCI #.

To me AOR, while it might not mean much in reality, means peace of mind. To know that no papers, signatures are missing, etc.

Whoa, 11 months for AOR first stage?

In our case, we NEVER received a message, by snail or electronically. We only found out my approval to sponsor by calling Ottawa and an immigration clerk giving us this information after searching her database. Shortly after, we were informed that it was sent to Beijing for the second stage. So yeah, if it's been a long while, call the Canadian CIC number as listed on the site.

Don't you mean 11 months for AIP first stage.

AOR is a different stage. Much eariler around 3 weeks to 3 months. It is an acknowledgement of receipt. Basically saying yes officially received your application, looked it over to make sure docs are all there and signed and put back on the shelf. When 11 months have passed, we will issue an AIP then.

I am worried that our lack of AOR, when Applications sent in almost a MONTH after ours already have rec'd theirs, means that we are missing something....

That can't refuse you at AOR stage can they????

I think, as Screech noted, AOR really doesn't mean anything. If you folks are this distraught over not yet receiving your AOR and it's only been a few weeks, you are in for quite a wild ride whilst you wait for your AIP and PR. My application was in receipt at CIC on Dec 7, 2012. I got an AOR and application in process together on Jan 21, 2013. Here I sit, months later, and still nothing, not a peep out of them. Polish up on your patience skills. I know how hard it is to sit and wait, and wonder what the hold up is, but if you sit and wonder all day long you are going to drive yourself crazy. Just remember even when you get your AOR, they can ask for an interview later, or ask for more paperwork 11 months after the fact or many many things. AOR doesn't give you anything. If your tracking numbers for your application show in receipt, then they have your application.

They won't refuse you at that stage. They don't make any decision regarding PR at all at that stage. Only decision they make is whether to send the application back to you due to incomplete application and/or forms not signed. If they send it back, you will be put back in the line again when you resubmit it again after correction.

The AOR is very important as you can show your current employers that you have applied for PR so you can still continue to work for them, its like solid proof.
