check out this article in the Toronto Star from yesterday to see why CIC may be skeptical in some cases...these are the kinds of people who ruin it for the honest couples out there just trying to be together. I was very angry when I read this and also felt terrible for the woman. it's amazing how cruel people can be. But this clearly affects the way CIC evaluates applications and makes decisions. they don't want people coming into Canada claiming to be spouses but they aren't - that's not what the Spousal Sponsorship system is made for.

If people like this man are willing to lie and deceive to get into Canada, what other laws will they break once they arrive?

Wow...thats disgusting..I really feel terrible for that woman!! I agree its people like him that make it so hard for the rest of us who really want to be with our loved ones!!

JillandMatt: I think CIC investigate marriages more closely that occur when the 2 people have either;

- never met each other in person before (Happens and I think its crazy) Unless its an arranged marriage and then religion comes into play..then there are different rules..

or

- Been together for only a few months!

Thats why there is a rule about being together for 1 year minimum for Common-law relationships

Here is how CIC processes Applications:

all i can say is what a friggen scab .....that i would even let mi dogg lick ...ewww

That is pathetic ....But ultimatley people are willing to go the ultimate length to become a citizen of this country ....That a$$hole will get removed but probally not soon enough ...But he is here and NOT with his wife ....God be with her in this horrible time ....Its such a gamble when you play with internet and long distance relationships...BECAUSE ultimatly you never really know ....And this womans story is truly SUCH a wake up call to the people out there that SCAM and use people for there STATUS...

Its a SAD reason why more genuine couples are scrutinized BUT if it keep the idiots 1out of 5 from coming here then i am all for it ...

What a sad story!!!!! Twelve thousand dollars fighting an appeal?

I certainly hope they can catch up with him! He deserves to be deported. I guess in cases like this I'm glad that immigration takes time to screen all of its applicants. . .They did reject him the first time.

what a d-bag

what about people who have lived together for a long time.. and have kids.. do they deny you then?
can they deny you based on your country?

why does it take 6 -15 months to do an application?

waoww what a story is that!!! I know it is a painful process for people like us to wait some months for our own applications but now it all makes sense to me. I wouldnt even imagine such kind of people could really exist.

me and and my husband also met online. But we had a common friend and we were introduced. This was Feb 2009. Then I visited him on Sept 2010, we kept on seeing each other online and by April we got married in Toronto. That was my second visit. It has been around 1,5 years which we can prove. we will be sending our application next week. we are trying to be positive. But I have same concerns too since everything started online. Specially after reading the stories here, I am really scared. But, the only thing matters is to be together, if Canada doesnt work for us, we will try my country then. The only problem will be language. I am able to speak english but he does not speak my language. anyways we will see what will happen next.

It is already so upsetting with all the distance and the process times but after reading this story, I will stop complaining and I will keep on hoping the best for all of us!!!

That's a shocking story. That poor woman!

As a minor aside - CIC thought that a five year age difference was a valid reason to reject an application? In normal circumstances tat would seem way too harsh; I'm guessing that they could just tell he was dodgy, and had to find something concrete to state as an objection. What do you think?

In that story the woman was 5 years older than the man. To me that is a really odd reason to reject since 5 years isn't that huge gap. Maybe her being older made CIC come to that decision? I know it shouldn't matter which gender is older but someone from CIC thought it.

What a sad story. Makes it hard for marriages that are 100% real. I think that IMM did see something she couldn't see and said the age thing thinking that would stop but I guess not. I am 4 yrs older then my husband. So yup I definitly think they saw something.
Hope he gets what he deserves. But how can they weed out the bad and move on the good? People can be real good actors.A friend of mine had arranged marriage in India he seemed to be decent but he pulled her aside right after the engagment party and told her how it was gonna be when he got here. He told her she had to buy him a house/car and have a good amount saved in the bank for him.And that he will see fit to beat her if she steps out of line. And to shut her mouth about what he said. However she is no pushover and made it all known to her father/uncles and brothers and that ended that.

The worst thing is that someone on our street totally got away with it!! 100% 'mail order bride' situation.. not even ashamed of it.. they let people like that slide (They told my hubby they had no problems and got through the process in less than 5 months), but legit people have to wait so long!

Honestly I don't think they will ever eliminate all of the fraud. These people make it their business to know exactly what the IOs look for and to provide it. It's the honest people who may not be 'in the know' who get screwed.

A 5-6 year age difference shouldnt be reason for CIC to turn down your application. Absolutely not. . . .Please dont worry.

I think they noticed other issues with the presentation of application for permanent residence. In this day an age people meet online all the time. BUT, with that being said, there are many scam artists from foreign countries that 'prey' specifically on North American women on these dating sites. Its scary. . .definately a HUGE risk to take.
