I just got my new SIN at Service Canada (i landed last Tuesday). As soon as I took my first look at the number, I had this question in my mind: how was this number generated? I know that first digit of the SIN tells whether you are Canadian (PR/citizen) or not, and which province you come from. And there is a simple formula to determine whether a number is valid.

somehow, the middle 3 digits of my new SIN is the same as the middle 3 digit of my cell phone number. Does anyone encounter similar coincidence?
I believe it should have no relation. And if it is really a pure coincidence, I would really like my cell number better. that's a wow!

This is of course a coincidence. There are so many numbers in your life (phone number, date of birth, ...) that it is not really surprising that some number in your life coincidentally matches a group of three numbers in any nine-digit sequence.

agreed. this is just coincidence. there is no correlation between SIN numbers and phone numbers.
