Hi all,
I currently have 2 yrs of work experience in canada. For my first year of work experience, i had a work permit under NOC 9990.6 "software Developer Products".
In the current NOC classification i see this falls under NOC 2174.
However, my job duties match more closely with NOC 2171.

Should I apply under 2171 or 2174?
I guess my question is, how essential is it for NOC code (sent in cec application) to match work permit noc code?

Thanks, all help is appreciated

In my personal opinion, I think it doesn't matter what position states in your WP.

What matters is you activities, apply according to your activities not to your position. That's for sure!

I believe it is vital to have your duties matched to the correct NOC, than your title. There have been cases where the applicant's position was skilled but the NOC provided did not align with the applicants job duties, so the application got rejected.

Just my 2 cents!

I applied under 2171 Computer System Analyst. My job matches the description for 2171 but my company has my title as Systems Administrator, which the NOC has as one of the other job titles.

Will it be an issue that I was performing duties of 2171 while my work permit was approved under 2174?
There is some intersection between 2171 and 2174
Should I count on that and apply under 2174?

What matters is which NOC best describes your main duties and responsibilities, regardless of your work permit. If you think it should be 2171, use it. Or if it's 2174, use it.

You can also email HRSDC a copy of your main duties and ask them the code.

my case is same, my company has filed under NOC 2171 but the occupation mentioned by CIC in Work permit matches with NOC 2173. But I have a recent letter from employer for my duties relevant to NOC 2171, can I go ahead with filing application under NOC 2171? Please ADVISE.
