Hi All,

To begin my current PGWP is expiring on 21st February 2021. On 20th January 2021, I will get 1 year experience where I am currently working at.

I have 2 questions;

1) Can I already start my Express Entry profile, or do I have to wait till January 20th 2021 to start?
2) Do I have to apply for work permit extension and then apply for express entry later?

Thank you,

You can put in a profile but you aren’t eligible for CEC until a year of work experience, only FSW. You aren’t eligible for an extension of your PGWP. If you don’t get an ITA by February 21, you stop working and change status to visitor. To continue working without ITA, your employer needs to apply for a LMIA which takes months.

Should I wait till January and then apply for CEC? Additionally, once applied can I get an extension on my Work Permit?

A EE profile doesn’t give you an extension. You need an ITA to be eligible for an extension. What is your CRS score now and what will it be with one year experience?

As of right now I have 393 points with no experience.

If I input 1 year of experience, I get 446 points.

So you don’t have enough for FSW & possibly not for CEC. The last CEC draw was in august & score was 454. Are you eligible for PNP. You may need to make plans to stop working & change status to visitor. Or have employer look into LMIA but you will need a closed work permit. This takes a long time and The process will not be completed by February.

I am not eligible for PNP unfortunately here in Ontario. I see that my options are limited.

My current employer is offering me a permanent position for the type of work I do. I don't know if this makes a difference but wanted to put it out.

Your employer needs a LMIA to keep you on past the expiry of your PGWP. He needs to complete a market assessment & prove he couldn’t find Canadians or PRs to do the job. All the best.
