Hi all

I am student at Waterloo (my course ends in 2019) and I submitted my PR renewal on Aug 6. I got a mail from CIC saying that my application has been referred for a secondary review.

I have been in the country continuously since May 2014 ( My "out days" are 996) and my application is complete in all respects. I had earlier studied in Indian School Bahrain.

I am really surprised - because all my supporting documents were rock solid.

My question: is secondary review based on the "out days" or random or is simply bad luck? What ARE the filters based on which an appln is picked up for secondary review? How can we avoid getting into this segment?

Many thanks in advance

996 "out days" is fairly high (almost three years out of the five years). CIC is most likely validating that you fully meet RO.

While it's anyone's guess, I would say the review is based on the number of "out days".

No one knows exactly what the filters are for certain. However I high number of "out days" is most certainly one of them.

Did you submit copies of your transcripts / record of attendance with your renewal application? (they do ask for some sort of proof in the instructions).

You also mention that you had traveled (or studied) in a middle-eastern country (Bahrain). Although the evidence is anecdotal, many posters on here renewing their PR, who have been put in secondary review, had travel to the middle east, which appears to be a trigger. However, in the end, as scylla said, no one knows exactly what puts one at risk for SR, or whether it is entirely random at times!

Same story

I was living with my (single) mother in Kuwait and I came to university in
Canada on my own in August 2014 and I was 18 years old at the time

I didn't spend a single day outside Canada. Haven't seen my mom my family or my friends for over two
years. Been living here alone for over two years

Got an email today that my application was referred to Secondary review

Absolutely devastated right now and thinking of just leaving Canada

I supplied all the documents they asked for and all entry exit records from all countries.

I'm afraid of traveling and applying for a PRTD because it could be rejected for whatever reason and I won't be able to come back to school and ruin my future.

Totally horrible situation. Being punished just because I lived in the Gulf as a kid

My son ( 19 year ) applied for PR renewal on 6th July with 1043 days out side Canada. In end of Sep we received letter that pickup PR Card from local office on 26 Oct. he picked his card after easy & short interview. I was not expecting his renewal within this time but I think he is Lucky.

When did you guys send the application and when did you receive email for secondary review? Did they ask for any more documents?
