Reset 6 month stay for visitor

Hi All,

My parents are holding Canadian visitor visa which they can stay up to 6 month for each visit. Do you guys know do they have to go back to the origin country and come back to Canada in order to reset their stay for another 6 month?
Can they go to US or other counties in North or South America? Thanks,

There is a process to extend a stay beyond 6 months: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/extend-stay.html

They can leave Canada any time, but the length of stay when they return will be determined by the CBSA officer based on the port of entry interview.

You should expect that extension are not guaranteed everytime. At a certain point the extensions will be denied and your parents will need to return home and reestablish their ties to their home country.
