Did anyone register their marriage after getting married in India?

would it be wise to register both in India and Canada and obtain marriage certificate from both countries ?

Yes I'm sure. You use your Indian marriage certificate for sponsorship purposes. As long as the marriage abroad was legally done there, then you are legally married here.

Totally unnecessary and will have no effect whatsoever on the speed of the processing of your PR application.

Married in S. korea and did not register our marriage in Canada.
sent only korean marriage certificate (translated and notarized in English)

VO did not request Canadian marriage cert and got approved PR.

so you do not need to register your marriage in Canada.

In general there is no such thing as "registering a marriage" in Canada. A legal marriage performed anywhere in the world is also recognized in Canada, with just the marriage certificate (translated to english/french if required).

The only thing one must do in Canada with the government after getting married in another country, is to change status with CRA to married. You can also inform any other place that may want to know (i.e. for joint bank accounts, insurance, listing as beneficiaries, etc). In all cases a translated copy of marriage certificate is all that's needed if asked for proof.

You can also do that online if you have a CRA account set up. Takes like 30 seconds.
