Hi,

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has registered their marriage in India, under the Special Marriage Act where one spouse is a Canadian citizen.

In my case, the Marriage Officer informed us that they will send a letter to the Canadian High Commission to verify whether my fiancée is single before proceeding with the marriage registration.

Also, for the Single Status Certificate, we only have a self-declared affidavit notarized by a Canadian notary public stating that she has never been married.

Has anyone gone through a similar situation?

* Did your Marriage Officer also contact the Canadian High Commission for verification?
* Did the High Commission respond?
* Was a notarized self-affidavit accepted as the Single Status Certificate, or were you asked to provide any additional documents?
* Did you face any delays or difficulties during the marriage registration because of this?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience. Thank you!
