Reference letters

Hi there,

Could someone please tell me a bit more about reference letter requirements when looking for a rental in Toronto? How many are needed?

We've been renting a place in our home country for the past 3 years and have had a good relationship with the landlord, however, right towards the end she became unrealistic about 1 particular thing and our relationship broke down, so we will not be able to use her as a reference. I can, however get an employer reference and reference letters from at least 3 previous landlords (excluding current one).

Will this be an issue?

I have never been asked for reference letters when I rented in Toronto. They generally ask for a credit report or if you are a new immigrant either a Salary slip Or a guarantor to co-sign the lease + first and last month rent.
