Recently landed PR, visiting family in the US

I had my landing interview for permanent residency in Canada about 6-7 weeks ago. I'm planning to visit family in the US over Christmas (just booked the flights/hotels yesterday), but I just received a message today from IRCC that my photo for my PR card was rejected (otherwise I was expecting to receive my PR card within the next 2-3 weeks.) My understanding is that, even though I'm now a Canadian permanent resident, I maintain my US citizenship unless I renounce it, so I'm wondering what steps (if any) I need to take to ensure I won't have problems travelling in December.

- Can I simply use my existing non-expired US passport for my travel?
- If I send a new photo for the PR card in the next few days, does the 2 month waiting period start over, or am I likely to receive my PR card before December?
- Should I start the process to get a temporary travel document (I don't know how long that takes or where to start)?
