Questions on minor child not immigrating as well as Medical Exam question

I think you can use "passport" photos from whatever country you do the medical in. My husband used US passport size for his medical, as he did his medical in the US. I believe I recall seeing somewhere in the documentation about Medicals that they called for "passport type photos"... I think they mean anything of a reasonable size that will fit on their forms.

Well I have my bases coered no matter what size photos are needed. My friend sent me 16 immigration photos each istead of te 8 rquested and he will send medouble of the passport size as well. I will ue half andsave the other half "just in case" something happens to th fist batc and they need replaced. ve copied every document that I have sent to my attorney too, "just in case" it gets lost. I guess I'm a little paranoid in that area. lol

Any input on the car thing from anyone? I'm really trying to figure what I will do about getting a new car come September.

Besides the car question inmy previous post I had another one for anyone who can answer.

Is there a checklist out there anywhere to prepare us for what we will need to do immediately upon landing? I want to be able to start planning for what I will need to do so that I can start looking for a job as soon as possible. The thought of the transition stresses me out to no end.

You no longer need to take Appendix C with you to the Dr. They have been eliminated as per the recent changes to the Immigration Medical Examination Process (you can find the official document here - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob471.asp). I have seen many posts where the staff at Drs offices still aren't aware of this. You will need to take passport size photos with you to the appointment. The Dr. office should tell you how many. (The Dr in Phoenix that did my husband's medicals in mid November required 4 photos)

Annie, do I need to take any forms at all? I read the bulletin and it looks like there is one new form but that the doctor's office should have it in their office. Is there any place I can get this form in case the doctor's office doesnt' know about the changes? I don't want to show up in a few weeks and have problems with the paperwork.

Also, you do not need to take any forms, and I don't believe anyone but Dr's have access to the new form(s) - this below is a cut and paste from the Directive...seems to say they are not available for download.

With this release, there will be two newly-revised IMM 1017 forms:

IMM 1017: Medical Report: Client Biodata and Summary (not available on our website as it will be GCMS-generated along with
medical instructions)
IMM 1017B: Upfront Medical Report: Client Biodata and Summary (not available on our website as panel physicians will have these
forms in their office. With the implementation of the new IMM 1017B, Appendix C will no longer be required)

I would just take a copy of the Operational Bulletin with you. I'm pretty sure the Dr himself will be completely up to speed on the changes (the Panel Physicians are few and far between, so they all do a lot of these and the changes have been in effect since Nov 1) ..it seems most of the problems I've heard about have been with getting outdated information from the office staff regarding what to bring with you.

Thanks Annie, the information has been wonderful. Onc again I had my facts wrong when it came to the car thing. It looks like I can transfer it up with little hassle as I will probably buy a new car. There should be very little, if an modifications that should be made, and I won't have to worry about selling a car here and then buying a new one there. It is starting to all come together, now to get the packet in and mailed. I am shooting to mail the packet off on January 31st after my medicals are done. My lawyer is going to send me the papers to sign and then I will hold the packet until I get the receipt from the doctor. I will pop that in the envelope and we will be ready to go. YIPPEEEE!!

Okay, here is another question I am contemplating. Any input negative/positive to the idea would be greatly appreciated.

I have been toying it the idea of moving to Canada to live with my wife on August 1. My lease is up at my current apartment on July 31st and I can only renew for a year at a time. Since it looks like processing is under a year that could cause me problems renewing and backing out of the lease. Also, I will be able to turn my leased car in anywhere from early August until September 25th. I will only have one car payment left in August and then I am free of that financial duty. I thought August one would be good because I could enroll my son for school that starts in September. That would give him a month to get settled in and give me a month to sort any paperwork the new school might need. I know he will not have a PR card yet but I read on a thread somewhere that if I show the school that we are in process for PR that they will allow him to start school until he received his PR card. I really have no other bills I will have to pay other than health insurance from the US and a life insurance policy and I may be able to temporarily cancel those payments.

So I guess my question is, would it be a good idea to go ahead and move up in August since we will be 7 months into the process by then? Or would it be better for me to stay put and wait until I get the PR card. Any ideas/suggestions from anyone?? I just want the transition to be as flawless as possible.

Given what processing times we are currently seeing, think it's quite likely you may have your PR by Aug, but if you don't have it, you won't be able to actually move to Canada. A lot of people go to Canada to wait out the process with their spouse. You will likely be allowed entry into Canada as a visitor to wait until your PR is granted. As for registering you son in school, it really depends on what Province/School District. Thanks Annie!! The province will be Ontario and I read not too long ago that Ontario would allow my son to start school. I will check out those links though. As for the personal belongings I wasn't planning on bringing anything but some clothing and a few personal items. We currently only live about 6 hours away so making trips back and forth a few times to get more things wouldn't be an issue. I need to make a decision either way by about May so I can decide what to do with the items I wasn't taking with me anyway. My wife has a home already and it is fully furnished, there is not much that I have that will add to the decor of the house. I plan to just have a huge apartment sale and sell everything I don't need. The rest of it will be donated to Goodwill. I really don't want to try to move my furniture to another place for only a few months. Anyway, I am hoping that this process will go smoothly. If I can get my meds back quickly then I think it will go fast. I just hoppe my daughter's medicals won't hold up the process. That is the part that is worrying me.

He also said i didn't have to pay the $100 for the pr cards if i am being sponsored under spousal family class. Can anyone tell me exactly how much I need to pay, is it 1780 or $1190? We will be paying inthe next 2 weeks so need to know how much it will cost. Thanks in advance!!

Principal Applicant (PA)- $475
PA's family member (under 22) $150
Permanent Resident Card Fee $ 50 (x2) total $100
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490 (x2) total $980

Is this correct? I assume the Permanent Resident Card and the Permenant Resident Fee both have to be paid twice since my son will accompanying me. Is that Correct? Also, do I have to pay the $100 (PR card fee for me and my son) with the rest of the fees or is that paid later? Thanks in advance!!

There is no Card Fee and the following is a cut and paste from the CIC website:

For the acquisition of permanent resident status
$490

This fee is payable by principal applicants (with some exceptions) and accompanying spouses and common-law partners. It must be paid before
the immigrant visa is issued overseas or before the applicant becomes a permanent resident in Canada.

The following applicants are not required to pay this fee:

dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted, or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild; and
protected persons, including Convention refugees

That's a great feeling, isn't it! I recall it well

Your package goes to Mississauga - there are two addresses depending on how you send it (mailing or courier). Most people like to use a courier option so they can track the package and have a signed confirmation from the person who accepted the delivery. Also, which ever way you send, you should remember to clearly mark the type of application (as shown on the postal address below - the addresses are cut and paste from the website).
