I have a question. I am a dual citizen of Canada and the Philippines. My Canadian ex-wife and I were married in the Philippines, and she sponsored me to immigrate to Canada. Unfortunately, after five years, we divorced in Canada.

I am now married to my new wife, who lives in the Philippines, and we were married in Thailand. My question is: am I eligible to sponsor my new wife to Canada under the Family Class (Spousal Sponsorship) program, even though my previous marriage is still legally recognized in the Philippines?

Canada will recognize your Canadian divorce. When did you land in Canada as an PR after the sponsorship? Have you been living in Canada or the Philippines? If you have been living in the Philippines you will have to show concrete proof that you are going to return to Canada. I assume you lived with your 1st wife in Canada for at least a few years before becoming divorced. When you met your 2nd wife, how quickly you got married, how much time you spent in person and over how many visits, etc. will all be factors IRCC will consider.
