Hello,
could you please advise whether it is required to have a set of photos with you while making landing or they take pictures themselves?
Also if principal applicant makes landing without dependants, will it be problem at a border? Does COPR includes dependants too? How to manage it on the border?
Thank you in advance.

I had to provide photos to the consulate general in Buffalo when I went in for my visa; they asked for it in the PPR. Your PPR should have all the details.

No, no problem for the principal to land by himself and for the dependents to come later. The only rule is that the dependents cannot come first without the principal applicant.

thank you for your reply, Karlshammar. they never asked for any photos in our PPR, that's why I am just wondering where they will get photos for the PR card.

That's interesting... What post did you apply through?

In Buffalo they required 3 visa photos.

Viena. so you think it is safe to go to POF without photos, or it is better to take a set of photos together with COPR?

I honestly don't know. I can only speak with authority when it comes to the photo requirements when going through Buffalo. I don't see how you could lose anything other than a few bucks by taking photos, though, and you could potentially gain from it. Buffalo told me to get 3 photos and sent me this link to use for specs: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/photospecs.asp

(Those are visa-size specifications.)

WHy take chances over so small a detail? I'd get a few photos for good measure.

just one more question, I heard that outland applicants receive their SIN right away while landing - is that true? and what is procedure like - do they do it right at the border or just give you forms to sign and apply later?
thank you in advance

It is not stupid. These are potentially life-changing matters with far-reaching consequences. There's no such thing as a stupid question (except "How long will my application take?" and other questions with their answers easily found on www.cic.gc.ca).

You do not get your SIN right away, however, you can go to Service Canada right away to get it. In fact, I'd recommend to everyone who lands to go get their SIN and sign up for provincial health insurance ASAP.

thank you for your reply, Karlshammar. I appreciate it a lot. I heard that one cannot apply for provincial health insurance until s/he receives the PR card. Is it true? or I can apply right next day after landing?

No problem!

In Ontario you can apply the same day you land. No need to wait for the PR card. Just bring in your COPR (as well as your passport and other ID).

After I landed I went straight to Service Canada for my permanent SIN card, and then straight to Service Ontario for the health card.

thank you for you reply - it helps a lot! I really didn't know that one can apply for the health card right away. Do they give me a temporary one while waiting for the card itself? how long does it usually take to receive a health card in Canada after application?
sorry for so many questions, it's really important to me.

Health is important. :)

Do you currently have a temporary health card? If you do you can keep using it and they will give you a paper proving you applied for a permanent one, and a new one will arrive in the mail.

If you do not have health insurance already it will start after 3 months, and you should receive the card a week or two before it starts.

no, I do not have a temporary card, so I guess I have to wait for 3 months. don't they give me even a temporary number while waiting for it?
