Thanks everyone for sharing their experience.
I'm inside canada on a study permit right now but my TRV has expired, I applied for permanent residency last year, and recently I got my passport request from CIC. I think I will get my passport back with a one-time entry visa next week, hopefully.

My question is regarding the flagpoling and how it works.

I've read in other forums that sometimes people fail to land at borders, and they need to do it again some other time.
My question is if I try landing and I fail, does this one-time entry visa gets used (because I went to the US side and came back) and I'll end up without any visa after? OR flagpoling does not considered as leaving Canada?

Thanks in advance

Good luck with your answers. As far as I understand, this is the meaning of flagpoling:

Flagpoling is a term that describes the process of exiting Canada, being refused entry to the USA, and re-entering Canada to validate your new immigration status in Canada. For most individuals who are eligible to flagpole it is the preferred method to validate study permits, work permits and permanent residency.
