Hello,

My PR Card is going to be expired in June 2014, I was only absent for 150days up to today since 2009 when I first landed.

I am planning to live in my orignal coutry for several months start October 2013 and I would like to start renewing my PR Card in January 2014 as you can do the renewal within 6 months before it expires. My question is how should I report that I am absent from October 2013 to January 2014? and if I am still not in Canada by the time I complete the renewal application form, how can I report this? should I put them in the form? but I don't have an exact returen date yet.

Based on the calcualtion, even though I will be all gone from October 2013 to June 2014 when my PR card expires, I am still meeting the residence requirement.

Thank you very much for your help!!!

PR renewal applications must originate within Canada. Even though it is not a set in stone requirement that you be in Canada yourself during your processing, you would have to ask someone to mail the application from inside Canada for you and you need a Canadian mailing address for them to contact you.

For renewals, there is also no guarantee that the new PR card will be mailed to you. You may be asked to pick it up yourself. It may be a better idea to wait with the renewal application until you are back.

Edit: See here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/pr-renewal-t165023.0.html about having left Canada during PR renewal processing. The processing centre actually stopped processing the application when they found out.

Operational Bulletin 536 from CIC indicates that PR Card applicants residing overseas at submission time as indicated by the declared residential address must collect their PR Cards in person. It seems CIC may be going beyond this and stopping processing altogether.
