I am in the process of submitting my spousal sponsorship application soon :)

These 3 may be silly questions I am asking. But, I heard of CIC returning application forms where they see blank for some sections, so better being safe than sorry.

1) Question about Generic form (IMM008). For the "Contact information" section, there are boxes for P.O.Box and Apt/Unit, which are not applicable to my wife. My wife tried typing 'N/A' for the P.O.Box, but the form fails while validating. So, my wife left P.O.Box and Apt/Unit as blank instead of writing N/A. How do you guys respond when you did not have any Apt/Unit #? Left it blank or wrote N/A?

2) On her IMM5490E (Sponsored Spouse/partner questionnaire), she left blank for questions 20-23 (not even writing 'N/A') since we both are married, and not fall into "Common-law or conjugal".

3) Also, I am looking at the checklist IMM5491E. For item 19, since I believe there are no minimum necessary income requirements for the spousal sponsorship, I am leaving it blank. Similarly, item 20 where it says "If you are a Canadian citizen living exclusively outside Canada.." and so on. Since, I live in Canada, I plan to leave this blank as well. Did you guys just leave them blank OR write N/A when they are not applicable to you ? If you wrote N/A, did you write it on the checklist box itself?

Since the form does not mention anything about writing N/A in these, we are leaving these blank for the 3 points I mentioned here, but want to know your inputs too.

Thank you.

I was so paranoid that after it was printed I wrote in n/a

Don't forget that a marriage is in fact a conjugal type relationship, so don't assume that all questions about conjugal would not apply to a married applicant.
http://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/concepts/definitions/conjugalstat
When applied to a person, conjugal status refers to whether a person aged 15 or over is living with a person of the opposite or same sex as a spouse or common-law partner.

It's always better to write N/A, otherwise someone at CIC will `assume' that you didn't answer the question.

Thank you friends for settling the thing for point 2 that I asked.

How about point 1 and 3? How did you respond?

1. If she provided a single family home address (i.e. 123 Main Street), then there's no need to write N/A for P.O. Box or Apt #

3. You cannot leave #19 blank; you must explain how you will support the sponsored person, in the `Details of other income'. If you will be getting financial assistance from friends/family, explain that here. Does not apply to the OP.

I would write (by hand) N/A over any check box that doesn't apply.

...

are you sure about this? it seems that anytime that conjugal partnerships are mentioned in cic documentation, they are referring to situations where the couple are not married, the link you cited is a stats can thing which doesn't really have anything to do with the cic... following the logic of the form it seems they are speaking of it in situations where the couple is not married, at least that is the interpretation I felt when I read it

You're confusing a conjugal partnership with a conjugal type relationship, which is what a marriage is. Even the Document Checklist asks for this:
Proof of your conjugal relationship (e.g., commitment, housing and financial arrangements, social activities, attitudes and mindsets towards your
relationship)

A Conjugal partnership (sponsorship) would not be able to provide housing proof, because they cannot live together, right?

And the website that I provided the link for is a government agency, so I disagree; the `stats can thing' is in fact relevant to CIC.

Reg. point (3), I am employed full-time, and already providing the latest notice of assessment for the year 2015. I think this item 19 on the checklist form IMM5491E applies only if I am not providing latest notice of assessment. Since there are no minimum income requirements for the spousal sponsorship, I think I can just write N/A for item 19.

Am I missing anything here?

Thanks again.

hmm ok, interesting thought, I have to go back then and look at that, I prepared things assuming that this was for common law relationships, not for married

what do they mean by "attitudes and mindsets toward your relationship" anyways? how do you put that on a form in words? eg. "I love my wife, and she loves me" ?? seems kind of silly question about a marriage

1. You can leave them blank.

2. As you are married, you can simply skip those questions.

3. Write N/A on the checklist boxes for all of 19.

I'm still a bit confused, seems we have 2 completely opposite opinions in this thread.... I wish CIC would make it more clear on their website

This is what I did:

1. Left it blank

2. Dont need to fill anything, since you are married. And on the form it says to go to question 24 (after #19)

3.Since no minimum income is requirement, you dont need to check mark it. Also document checklist mentions only to put tick mark on the documents we are submitting. So I didnt put N/A

It's simple. You need more than just a copy of a marriage certificate to prove a genuine marriage. Period!

I think you might be looking at the wrong form, #19 on IMM 5491 (sponsor document checklist) is irrelevant to most people since it is only for those who must meet the minimum income requirements.
