Hi all. I recently got a DM and will be landing as soon as my COPR arrives. I'm a US citizen and have been in Canada on visitor status for the past 2 years. I drove up here and my car has been here ever since.

I'm very confused about the exporting/importing process. I'm trying to research it online but everything is so unclear on the exact steps I need to take. Can anyone help with that?

Also, if I don't have everything ready for importing yet, can I still land? I'd be driving to the border in my boyfriend's car, not mine. Will they ask me about my car? I am just paranoid they won't let me land until I import it or something. Any reassurance on this? What will they ask me during the landing process?

Thank you!

You can still land :) What you'll be asked to do is fill out a B4 form on which you state basically what goods you're importing that day, and also what goods you own that you'll be importing at a future date. It's simply so that you won't get nailed for duties on a future trip to Canada when you have these goods with you. Don't sweat it too much.

I'm not really familiar with the car import process but I can assure you having it or not having it that day will not prevent you from landing.

Thanks a lot :) I'm *so* close now that I'm just starting to imagine the worst scenarios and getting paranoid, lol.

As you've probably already seen elsewhere in this forum....landing is a non-event :) Anything you would have had to sweat over would have been dealt with long before a CoPR was ever issued to you :)

All a landing is, is you presenting your CoPR, and getting asked the most basic of questions...like 1) have you committed any crimes 2) has your family situation changed....3) what is your address in Canada (to mail the PR card in a couple of months).

You'll get it stamped/signed and you'll be on your way :)

Yay :) Okay thanks. Any idea how long I have before I do have to import my car? How long did your COPR take to arrive? They sent mine last Friday and I'm sooo anxious! The call centre said it could take two weeks but I can't imagine it would take two weeks to get from Ottawa to me here in Mississauga.

I think you have as long as you want, to be honest...just tell them when you land you have a car, you'll import it at a future date. Canadian citizens import cars from the U.S. all the time, so I don't think you have a time limit on when you must do it by :)

You can expect your CoPR in a couple of days if they say it's on the way. It just comes regular snail mail.
