My name is Jean I am a permanent resident of Canada since two years and I originate from Colombia. I am traveling to the Dominican republic in 2 weeks and I am a little bit worried. I wanted to know how would it work if I got my permanent resident card stolen from the safe at the resort that I am staying at ? Since I absolutely need my card to board the plane and I am not a Canadian citizen but a permanent resident. Since I am from Colombia I need a visa to come to Canada but it has been voided because I am now a permanent resident. If I bring some copy of my card , of the certificate and some proof of residency , will it be enough to have the permanent resident travel document that I need ?Because the process to have a new card is too long to compltet for me to get back to canada with my flight.

thank you very much for you time and I hope to ear from you soon

A PRTD is what you need in the event that you don't have your PR card. A valid PRTD will allow you to board the flight

Thank You. But If I buy a all-inclusive package deal with air canada for a week in dominican republic and during that trip my card is stolen. I can't wait there a month and fill out some form and send it by mail. What do you think or my option ?

Why are you stressing about it so much? Your PR hasn't even been stollen yet....and most likely won't be

I just wanna be prepared for whatever happens , the whole process was so long and stressful .....The explanation on CIC is that you always have to do everything by mail and wait forever. I do not know if I have it in my passport I am going to check it out , good question. Do you have one ?

i think your focus should be on how to protect your belongings including the PR card during your vacation..because if you loose it, its a hassle to return - i don't think there's an easy way to get a PRTD. Even having a passport+COPR will not suffice to board a plane to canada.

If it makes you feel better, make a hidden pocket in your clothes or a money/ankle belt to hide your PR card. :)
