Hi,

I need some help regarding getting a certificate of citizenship for my daughter who was born in the USA. For the paperwork it says 2 forms of ID are required, I have one which is her bc and for the other it says it must have a photo but I have no ID with a photo of her, she is only 3 and I am in canada while she is in the U.S. At the moment so it isn't possible for me to go get her photo ID. Can I use some other form of ID without a photo? Not sure what to do in this situation, I have searched but haven't found anything. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

1. Get her a passport.

How am I supposed to do that if she's not with me and I don't have the Canadian citizenship certificate yet...

US passport - not Canadian.

She has an American passport which I paid for two years ago, that's the only photo ID that exists but her mother won't let me see the passport or make a copy of it so I'm stuck. That's why I am not sure what to do if I can submit the forms with just two copies of ID but they aren't photo ID.

Without taking sides in what appears to be a custody dispute, I will say that others have reported that in the case of young children, they have sent their own photo ID instead of the child's and this was accepted.

Thank you for your response, can anyone else confirm this?

For a recent example of this question being asked, look at the question by khana26 and reply by JMilne on page 53: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/child-born-to-a-canadian-citizen-outside-canada-t61657.780.html

I would suggest sending your daughter's ID (whatever you have) and yours.

I can confirm this. Recently applied for our 2 sons and we supplied identification of their father (canadian citizen by birth). We were given this advice from our Canadian Embassy here in Australia. We also included their Australian passports as we had them so thought may as well.

You got your AOR quick! Was it for one child or more? I sent my 2 kids apps in on September 12th and they were received the 15th. No AOR yet, but hoping for one soon. I read it will take about 5 months to process so hopefully you will receive the certificate in the mail any day now!
