Hello everyone,
I am preparing an application for a Canadian citizenship certificate through my Canadian-born mother.
I recently received a copy of her original birth certificate, issued in 1969. Her first name is handwritten without the final letter “e” (for example, “Mariann” instead of “Marianne”).
However, my own birth certificate lists her name with the final “e”. I also used the spelling with the final “e” when requesting her Ontario birth certificate, and the Ontario authorities were able to locate the record.
The other identifying information is consistent, and I have not submitted my Proof of Citizenship application yet.
Has anyone experienced a similar spelling discrepancy between a Canadian parent’s birth certificate and their child’s birth certificate?
Could this cause IRCC to refuse the application, or would an explanatory letter and supporting identification documents usually be sufficient? Would it be advisable to request an official correction to the parent’s birth certificate before applying?
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation, especially those who have already received a decision from IRCC.
Thank you!
