Hi all,

I am looking for some insight on where I stand with my or card renewal. According to the website the processing time is 95 days now. I sent my application in January and they started processing on April 5th.

I assume the 95 days are work days not total days?

I am leaving the country in about 2 weeks. What are my options there? Unfortunately it does not seem possible to reach anyone by phone.

would someone at a service Canada location be able to give any insight on the status?

Best,
Nihil

- The 95 days are calendar days. You need to factor in a few additional weeks for mailing on top of the 95 days to process the application.
- Service Canada cannot give you any insights. They are in no way connected to IRCC.
- If you receive the card in time then you will be fine. If not, your choice are as follows: (1) once the PR card is available and received at your Canadian home address, have someone courier the card to you where you are outside of Canada; (2) apply for a PRTD to return to Canada; (3) If you have a US visa or status in the US, fly to the US and then re-enter Canada through a land border using a private vehicle.

Thank you for your detailed response. Just to clarify I did apply January and they received the application on February 2nd. Yet they started “processing” on April 5th which is well over 95 calendar days.

I guess they should really be more upfront about processing times.

is it true the PRTD can only be applied from outside Canada? Would it be worth applying while being away for 2 weeks only?

Got it. I thought you applied in April. Did you have well over 730 residency days when you applied or were you closed to the 730?

The processing time is an estimate that represents how long it takes to complete process for 80% of applications. This means some take longer than the posted processing time. The posted processing time is not a guarantee. I would recommend you continue trying to contact the IRCC help desk to ask about the status of your application.

There has been some talk here about being apply to apply for a PRTD from within Canada. However I'm not sure that's verified and I don't have any information about this. I am only aware of the process of applying from outside of Canada.

I am at about 110 days so that should be ok. When you say contact IRCC Helpdesk, you mean via main immigration phone line 1 (888) 242-2100? Is it actually possible to speak to someone there?

When you call IRCC, It will ask you for the UCI , press 2 i.e. no UCI available and then as soon as the message for AF and UK refugees start playing press 3 3 0 in quick succession you will be able to reach them

Wow, thanks I finally got to talk to someone after months of trying!
It turns out they sent my or card to the wrong address and it got never ‘returned to sender’s’. Now I am leaving in 2 weeks for 2 weeks with no PR card in sight :| .

At this point I might just have get my PRTD process started online….

Wow, thanks. Actually got back my letter already. In any way this has to be submitted to the foreign visa office?
does anyone have any insight on how long that can take? The letter indicates it can take 2-3 weeks.

i was hoping getting the letter from IIRC would be the longest hurdle

Yes, in most places it will be 1-3 weeks. Possibly at the shorter end if you are in a city where the VFS office and embassy visa office are close, depending of course on also how good delivery services are,e tc.
