Hi everyone,

I applied for my PR Card renewal with urgent processing on May 18, 2025. The IRCC website currently shows a 12-day processing time for renewals. However, I still haven’t received an application number, and nothing appears when I check the Client Application Status tool. I also logged into my IRCC portal and tried using the ‘Add/Link an application to your account’ feature, but I haven’t been able to find or link the application there either.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How long does it usually take to hear back from IRCC after applying with urgent processing?
Also, aside from submitting a webform (which I’ve already considered), are there any other ways to track or follow up on the application? I tried calling IRCC but wasn’t able to get much help. Would it be helpful to reach out to my local MP, given that this is urgent and I need the PR card for a job opportunity?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

PR card renewals without urgent processing is 12 days. Generally we are seeing people receive the cards before they get any sort of confirmation because of the fast processing time. Whether IRCC decides to process urgently is up to them but with such a short regular processing time, there's not much to speed up.

I assume you meet the residency obligation and also submitted the application with a buffer (i.e. not just 730 days)?

Hi,
Yes, I meet the residency obligation and have a decent buffer (150+ days) for the renewal. I see, I really hope that's my case as well and the application gets processed timely. Any ideas on when should I reach out to IRCC for an update (via webform) if I don't hear back from them till June 02, 2025, that will be more than 2 weeks after filing? Thanks

If you have approx 850 days of residency in Canada in the past five years then I don't see why there would be any delays. Keep in mind that the 12 days is processing time only and doesn't include mailing.

Given that you were supposed to have an in person interview in July 2024 that you did not attend you may not qualify for urgent processing. It is impossible to say.

@canuck78 is right, you left out all the important stuff about your history:

Anyone's guess but I doubt this will get processed in the 'regular' timeframes.

Based on this new information, I agree. It's going to be a dice roll if this is treated as a standard or non standard application. If non standard, the processing times will go out the window.

Hi everyone,
Just to clarify up front: I have confirmed that I meet the Residency Obligation. I interviewed with an officer at POE, where I presented all my travel history and residency dates. After reviewing everything, the officer confirmed that I do meet the residency requirements, so there should be no issue on that front. Some of my previous posts may have reflected uncertainty around this, but at this point I’m fully confident that my residency obligations are met.

Now the question is whether IRCC will treat my PR card renewal as a standard application or not—but assuming it is treated as a standard case, I had a few questions I was hoping the community could help with:
  1. I submitted my PR card renewal application online through the Permanent Residence Portal on May 18, 2025, but it's been over 10 days and I still haven’t received an application number.
  2. I’ve also been unable to link my application to my IRCC secure account, even though I’ve tried multiple times and it should be linkable by now.
So, my two main questions are:
  • When does IRCC typically issue the application number after an online PR card renewal?
  • How long does it usually take before IRCC begins processing PR card renewals once they’ve been submitted?
Just trying to understand what the usual lag is between submission and when the file is actually picked up for processing.
Appreciate any insight from others who’ve gone through this recently. Thanks in advance!

FYI - CBSA is not IRCC. IRCC makes the decisions for PR renewals. The assessment at the POE isn't really relevant for your renewal and you have to make the case again to IRCC.

Will let others address the two specific questions you've asked.
