Title: Can I Renew My Canadian PR Card Before Completing 730 Days?
Hi everyone,
I have a question about renewing my Canadian PR card before completing the 730-day residency requirement.
Here are my details:
According to IRCC guidelines, someone who has been a PR for less than five years must show they can meet the 730-day residency requirement within their first five years.
My questions are:
Thank you!
Hi everyone,
I have a question about renewing my Canadian PR card before completing the 730-day residency requirement.
Here are my details:
- Became a Canadian PR: March 30, 2022
- PR card expiry: April 13, 2027
- 5th PR anniversary: March 30, 2027
- Expected completion of 730 days: December 30, 2026
- Planned application date: October 25, 2026
- Planned travel outside of Canada: January 1, 2027
- Note: I am currently in compliance with the PR residency obligation under the first-five-year rule, as I am on track to complete 730 days in Canada by December 30, 2026, before my fifth PR anniversary.
According to IRCC guidelines, someone who has been a PR for less than five years must show they can meet the 730-day residency requirement within their first five years.
My questions are:
- Can I safely apply for PR card renewal on October 25, 2026, even though I won't complete my 730 days until December 30, 2026?
- Will IRCC start processing my application before I complete 730 days, or will they wait until I've physically completed them?
- Would applying 30–40 days before completing 730 days be reasonable, or is it safer to wait until I've completed the requirement?
- Has anyone applied under similar circumstances and successfully received their renewed PR card before completing 730 days? If not, then do I need to apply for urgent processing, considering I have some travel plans in early January 2027?
Thank you!
