Scenario:

  • Our daughter lived for a period of time outside Canada with her Canadian citizen mother.
  • She then began attending a boarding school in a different country — one that is neither Canada nor the country where her mother currently resides.

Would the days our daughter spends attending boarding school be counted toward the 730-day residency requirement for PR card renewal under the provision of “accompanying a Canadian citizen parent outside Canada (source)”?

Thanks in advance!

In many cases, immigration authorities will ask for proof of the child's identity, current enrollment at the boarding school, travel history, and evidence that they continue to meet the residency obligations applicable to permanent residents.
