Background
  • While my Canadian ex-spouse and I were still married, our children and I obtained permanent residency through her family sponsorship.
  • Since our divorce, our children have been living overseas with my ex.
  • Meanwhile, I moved to Canada alone and have been continuously residing here.
  • As a side note, when I submitted our first PR card renewal application 5 years ago for both myself and our children together in a single application, we received PR cards with different expiry dates — about 2 months apart between mine and the children’s.

I am now considering applying to renew our children’s PR cards separately because their cards expire earlier than mine, and also because of our different travel schedules to and from Canada.

My understanding is that our children’s PR status still depends on my ex-spouse’s Canadian citizenship/sponsorship situation because they are minors living overseas with her.

On the other hand, I have been residing in Canada continuously and easily meet the 730-day residency obligation.

Would it be possible to submit separate PR card renewal applications for my children and myself?

Thanks in advance!
