Hello everyone,
It has now been 23 months since I submitted my PR application under the Protected Person class.
I recently spoke with my Member of Parliament (MP), and their office shared some internal notes with me.
It has now been 8 months since I received my eligibility approval letter.
I also contacted IRCC directly, and they confirmed that my application is currently in the background check stage.
According to the IRCC website, the estimated processing time for this application stream is currently 28 months.
Based on your experiences, how much longer do you think I might need to wait?
Thank you!

Would be prepared for 28 months to increase given volume of applicants and PR quotas. Processing times to get PR are going to increase for some time until Canada can reduce the volume of refugee, protected people and asylum claimants. Policies that allowed many to get to Canada and claim asylum or come through Canada’s large refugee resettlement programs are what also is going to make processing times much longer. Canada didn’t/doesn’t have the capacity to deal with the volume of applicants or absorb all of them as PRs at the same time without cutting off many other PR programs like family sponsorship, economic immigration programs, etc. Issue with many immigration programs Canada welcomed way too many people and many are now stuck in long backlogs or have no pathway to remain in Canada. They have also many chances to appeal which adds to the administrative burden and cost. Will likely take a 5-10 years to get back on track.
