The visa office I sent my application to received it on April 12th 2012, and have just sent me a letter stating they are working on my application. I received it on October 17 2012. The letter I received is telling me I need to get a medical check done and a Police Certificate. That's great and I'm happy to do that, but then they go on to say that they need the information requested to be received at the visa office by January 12 2013. Right on the CIC website it says that there is a 16-18 week processing time. How am I supposed to get it done in time?

Everyone I spoke with on the phone prior to this said I wouldn't need a Police Certificate.

The FBI has actually been processing the police records in 4-6 weeks :D

I did live there for 23 years, but the immigration people I spoke with on the phone told me I would not need one. I don't know why.

If you stayed in US for some extended period of time, the FBI Police certificate is required.

He's American of course he would need the FBI certificate, and I dunno who you spoke with on the phone but the checklist says you need a FBI certificate and if you filed in April you also needed one for every state you lived in for over 6 months (I filed April 23rd) so I don't know why they would tell you you needed none... but the law did change in July I beleive and now they only require FBI my suggestion get it done ASAP

If you are applying for permanent residence, you must have one done.
