Hi everyone,

I've looked around the forum for an answer to my question but was not able to locate any specific guidance on this.

I will be couriering my spouse's outland application package tomorrow. Her UK police clearance is set to expire on Feb 21st (next Thursday). With regard to delivery time, I don't foresee it being an issue since I live in Mississauga, and it's almost certain that the package will be delivered prior to the 21st.

I know the rule states that: "The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application."

My question hangs around the definition of "submit." I might be thinking too much into this, but does this mean:
i) the date on which the application is mailed out as recorded in the tracking sheet, OR
ii) the date on which it is delivered (i.e. when it is signed for by the recipient) OR
iii) the date on which the Acknowledgement of Receipt is prepared.

Hoping for a quick confirmation on my notion that #1 is the correct answer. :)

Thanks y'all!
Kev

Hi Iay,

The police certificate was issued on Nov 21, 2012. So technically if #1 is correct, I should still meet the requirements as the police clearance submitted would be "no more than 3 months from the issue date." Am I correct?

I believe it is when they physically recieve the package. Our application was sent July 30th, signed for on July 31st, and our PC expired August 2nd. I talked with a CIC agent yesterday and she confirmed that my police clearance was done. So I am assuming that I was okay with the timeline. I hope this helps.

Thanks so much for confirming that Rusty53. So I'm guessing that once they sign for the package I'm good.

Oh ok, I got it. I got confused when you said it's gonna expire on Feb 21st. Well, I sent mine February 4, and my husband's NBI clearance (like FBI in the US) was done on October 15th. So if 3 months is the case, mine would be way overdue.

Anyway, I don't think it would be a big impact, if they would require your wife to get another one, they would let you know about it. If you're worrying that they might send your application back, I'm positive they won't. Also, I heard police clearances are good for 6 months, hers will be due in May.

You can send the package now(considering that the earlier you start the better) and see what happens. I don't think they will return the package based on that. In the meantime apply for another PC and keep it handy so that should CIC ask for it you will send it immediately. All the best!!! The waiting is about to begin, I hope you have bags full of patience between you two. You will need them. I wish you a speedy process.
