I'm consulting the checklist for Western europe( france).

Number 11 states that "police certificates and clearences from each country in which you and everyone of your family members have resided for more than 6 months since the age of 18"

My partner was in canada from july 2008 to dec 2010, so I'm assuming he needs one right???

I'm confused because on the CIC website it says

How to obtain a police certificate - Canada

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?
Only in certain cases. The Canadian visa office will tell you if you need a Canadian criminal record check while your application is being processed.

How and where do I obtain one?
If the visa office asks you to complete a criminal record check, visit the RCMP website for instructions.

so do we need one or do we have to wait for them to ask for it???

I have been on the site but I want to know if I need to send this with the application or if it will be asked for by the VO later on

Only if CIC asks for a RCMPolice Check.

PMM can you please confirm: my partner who has lived in Canada in the past ONLY needs an RCMP clearence record if CIC asks for one.

So when I send in the Checklist for western europe can he check the box saying police clearence even though he only has the french one?

I'm sorry I'm freaking out because we are getting ready to send this next week, it's been a long process gathering everything and we just noticed this issue today and want to make sure we don't have to wait 5 months for the RCMP clearence to be able to send our application.

so any help is really imensely appreciated!!!

yes only send in your police clearance french with your application. If the Canadian VO looking after your application requires the RCMP check, then they will inform you and you will have to apply for it at that time. You can't send this in until asked to get it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

your welcome!
