Now you just have to prepare your bags and decide what to bring and what to dispose. :) Doyou have any idea who much it would cost to ship items to Canada? Will that be taxable for migrants?

Thanks Einna!

We've decided to just bring with us our laptop computers, mobile phones, some shoes and dresses that we can use in winterpeg and necessary documents (employment certificates, university/school credentials, professional certificates, etc.)... the rests for disposal - selling or for shipment to home country.

Unfortunately, I have no idea yet about the cost to ship items to Canada. I've read somewhere that as new immigrants, we're allowed to prepare a list of goods to follow and it will not be subject to any tax, but the items should not be brand new.

Prepare to buy boots here because according to my friend (who used to work here) in Winter-peg it is cheaper to buy shoes & boots here than there. Specially now that most places are having Ramadan sales and promotions. She said the quality and style of the boots here are better. I did not see much options in Winnipeg the last time I was there - the mall I visited is quite small compared to the mall here. Have you been to Winnipeg before?

You have two options for shipping goods to Canada from your place of residence:
Option 1: Use the checked baggage allowance of your airline. Some airlines are offering a decent baggage limit for flights to Canada/USA. Like Etihad Airways offers you an allowance of 2 bags (each 23kg and total 46kg) per passenger in economy class. In addition to this, 7kg hand carry is allowed per passenger. Some airlines also allow you to check-in extra bags by paying an additional reasonable price. A family can economically take their basic stuff to Canada by using this limit efficiently.

Option 2: Use cargo service (usually by sea) if you are moving a bigger quantity of goods. Cargo service from GCC to Canada is an expensive proposition. Reputable cargo companies charge around US$8,000/= for door-to-door service for a 20ft container which can accommodate about 2,500kg weight. This capacity is usually sufficient for your furniture and household effects etc. It should take around 45 days for your cargo to reach Canada.

Be sure to present goods accompanying and goods to follow list while landing for first time to avail the duty free import of your household items as new immigrants.

Hello everyone,

I have a question. Is it possible that the eCAS status will remain IN PROCESS and skip MEDICAL RECEIVED? We completed our medicals more than a month ago. Everyday, I check it online and until now it's still IN PROCESS.
Is it possible that after IN PROCESS, DM will be next status (that is after they request for our passports)?
Thanks. :)

Went last summer for a month long vacation all over Canada. For those who will settle in Winterpeg & used to big malls in Dubai, you have to lower your expectations:) I think even Deira City Center is even bigger than their mall! So if you love high end brands the likes of LV, Prada, etc. better buy here. Unless of course as you go to bigger cities like Toronto. And they close early especially during weekend. True, prices are comparably higher too. But if you buy there, at least you wont have to pay for extra luggage:)

No, we haven't been in Winnipeg before... we might buy a pair or two of boots here as we'll be landing during winter.
