You have to simply go to your bank branch and request the teller to issue a bank draft for Canadian Dollars XX (i.e. your total RPRF amount) in favor of THE RECEIVER GENERAL FOR CANADA. It must be drawn on a bank branch in Canada. Your bank will know what to do as issuing bank drafts is a routine transaction for banks.
After obtaining the bank draft, write your name and application number on its back and dispatch to ADVO along with the rest of the documents/passports etc requested by them.

We already obtained the demand draft from emirates nbd. As lawrence and lemans said its easy. (Thanks guys for guiding us)

We just went there they gave us a form for Demand Draft/Manager's Cheque just to fill the details like the benifiary (The Receiver General for Canada) then the amount.
Guys you were right they know which bank that draft will be drawn in Canada. We just waited 30 mins :)

Thanks again...

So for all aspiring immigrants if you are intructed to pay by bank drafts. Ask your bank if they are issuing bank /demand drafts for not all branch are allowed to issue.

I read from this forum discussion dated sometime in 2011 that demand draft can be obtained from al Fardan exchange before. but now it's not the case. They dont have such kind of service now.

Good
Now stop wasting time you and Lawrence :D
There is no Traveler Cheque in UAE

How are you going to transfer your money to Canada?

Did you manage to open bank account in Canada before you land ?

DEMAND DRAFT looks like a normal cheque right? we will sort things out regarding the funds when we go home to Manila in June.

Yes some call it Draft cheque and some called it Manager cheque.
Its easier to make draft cheque from dirham to CAD than to transfer from AED to XXX to CAD youll loose.

I am gonna ask again

I spoke today to RBC, they informed me that you can open saving account online, all you need is to provide them your visa number//immigration visa//

So you can transfer your money from UAE to RBC ;)

There is no harm to open account online and transfer before landing. But please make sure that they will give you newcomer’s benefits/privileges.

I will recommend to carry Bank Draft in CAD because in Wire Transfer many banks are involved and they may charge additional 15 to 25 CAD (depends on originating and destination bank).

You can also use draft to show as proof of funds during landing etc. once you land then open account in your desire bank and deposit, it will clear in 5 working days.

However in UAE only banks can create draft in non-USD currency and banks don’t give better exchange rates, but still you can negotiate with banks to provide better rates.

its correct, its like a cheque but issued by bank (means funds are available).

If you are in UAE, you should take advantage of this option to open a bank account in RBC before departing for Canada. If you can transfer some funds from your UAE account to your new RBC account before landing, that is even better and much more convenient than carrying cash or demand drafts along with you. RBC is a good bank, by the way.

I agree with aashamsi that one would still need to show proof of fund on landing in the form of cash/demand draft.

Hey lemans207,

If your bank is telling you that they do not issue travellers cheques (TCs) then you can check with another bank or some of the exchange companies to see if they can provide you TCs.

The advantage of TCs (like American express traveller cheques) is that if you lose them, you can get them reissued from any America express office. There are usually no charges for issue of TCs but when you encash them, you have to pay a small amount.

Its confirmed , draft cheque can be done Canadian dollar, last good option,

manager cheque only can be done dirham

We had medical last Sunday and while waiting for PPR, I thought we could save time and start preparing documents that they will/might ask along with PPR. Some of the things that I have seen from the other posts are:
•Picture
•Updated NBI / police clearance
•Source of funds
Is it advisable to wait for the actual instruction or start processing for the usual things that they usually ask for. As we are based in UAE for several years now, will they still request for NBI or just police clearance? Also, UAE police clearance is only valid for 3 months so if PPR arrives only after 3 months, then it will be expired already. Any other documents other than the above?
Appreciate your inputs/advice on this.

cenomar will be ask for some cases.. like ours... but since we are already married NSO will issue Advisory of Marriage instead.. if you will be asked for "non marriage certificate" you can apply online. its better to have it delivered to your address in the philippines then ask someone to send it to you here in UAE or anywhere in the Middle East thru DHL... it will be faster ( itguy advise us to do the same...That's what we did.. now AoM is on its way here... )
