Hi forum,
I'm British, my wife is Canadian and she is sponsoring me so I can apply for permanent residence. I'm currently living here with her in Canada on a temporary 12 working visa which expires on September 2nd. I'm looking for advice on the best process to take as I'm quite confused after speaking to the CIC call centre.
We need to apply through which ever process enables me to work the quickest.
I was told that if I apply Inland, to send and application for an open work permit and in 6 months it will have been agreed in principle and I can work again (assuming, fingers crossed, it goes fine.)
If we apply Outland I won't be able to work until I get my residency status which could be 6-8 months.
I'm really confused about what best to do. We have been filling in the forms for Outland sponsorship as we believed the process would be a lot quicker and thought it would get agreed in principle and I'd could start work again. (That seems an ill informed thought.) But after speaking to the call centre agent, I'm in a muddle.
I'm not a skilled worker, I came to Canada on a BUNAC visa for a 12 month working holiday and I've been doing temp work to get by. I was lucky enough to meet the woman of my dreams and we got married last month. Now as my current visa runs out in September, we can't afford a long wait until I can work again.
Any advice you have is very much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Sean
