Hi everyone,

I have received my eCoPR a month ago and still waiting for my PR. Can I work on my open work permit which is expiring after September 2025. I am confused as work permit is still valid after receiving ecopr.

Your WP would have been cancelled electronically when you received eCOPR. You are waiting for your PR card. If you have received your eCOPR you are already a PR.

You are a PR once you got your eCOPR. Apply for new SIN (permeant) with your eCOPR and you can work in Canada. (you no long need or are eligible for a work permit)

From search online:

In Canada, there are two types of SINs: temporary and permanent

• Temporary SINs are issued to non-permanent residents, such as temporary workers or international students. They start with the number 9 and expire when the work or study permit does.
• Permanent SINs are for Canadian citizens and permanent residents and do not expire

So if you current SIN starts with number 9, you will need to get a new SIN using your eCOPR.
