hi all, i live in Hong Kong and will land in Alberta in March.
I want to know more about the cellphone plans in Canada.
Am I free to use my old phone in Hong Kong when I buy the cellphone plan in Canada ?

My husband told me that there is some lock on sim card and I have to use phones provided by the Canadian carriers when I buy the plan.
I doubt it, so wanna see if you guys can advise on this.

Phones bought in Hong Kong are not locked so should be used worldwide.

How old is it?

I don't think you can use 2G cell phones here in Canada!

BTW, I bought my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in Hong Kong and had been using it here in Vancouver!

The major wireless carriers in Canada are Rogers, Bell and Telus. Each have their "value" sub-brands, namely Chat-R, Koodo and Fido. There are also a few independents that include Wind, Mobilicity and Virgin (operates on the Bell network). You can check the various plans and pricing on each of their websites.

The most value plan you can get is $25+tax a month with unlimited calling/texting (no data) within and Canada-wide, through WIND. Depends on availability in Alberta though.
