Paying Your Own Way Into Canada for Work

I know of a multinational employer who would most likely hire me to work in Canada if I they didn't have to pay the expense for the work permits. This employer believes that the LMO process has gotten much harder than it was one year ago and that therefore they would not be able to get me in even though I once did successfully get a LMO.

I am aware that generally the employer must bear the expense of the immigration process. Is there a way I can get my own work permit to work in a certain industry and then show it to employers?

You need an approved LMO if you want to apply for a work permit. There is no getting around that requirement (unless you happen to qualify under NAFTA).

So no - there is no way you can get your own work permit in a certain industry and then show it to employers. The approved LMO (obtained by an employer) comes first.
