Yeah if you run out of pages for visa's and stamps, the passport's no good for travel regardless how soon it'll expire. Most people won't have that problem, though.

Not sure about Canada but before I had Canadian passport, I had to use my US one for everything and there was one time I actually ran out of pages before my 10 years were up due to tons of business travels. I was able to apply to have additional pages added to my existing US passport instead of renewing it.

Or family visits. My wife and I make frequent trips to the USA to visit family and often with nothing to declare. Nexus lets us breeze through the lines. Love it.

True. However I think most family visits to US usually have overnight stays so most people would want to take advantage of duty free stuff on way back into Canada.

Until Ontario removes the 80 proof alcohol limit in liquor sales, I will always go to duty free store and get cheaper 100 proof or higher from US duty free whenever I stay in US longer than 48 hours

Nexus is good for frequent travellers who have nothing to declare on way back into Canada. In other words, only useful for frequent business trips.

Useless for those who go cross border shopping.

It's fine to declare items in the NEXUS lines.

I thought you were not suppose to declare anything using the nexus card, thus speedy and less wait time. If you have to declare anything, go through the regular line like everyone else. If you can declare stuff through nexus line, everyone might as well apply for nexus card and the nexus line will be just as long as non-nexus.
