My boyfriend has been accepted onto a masters program at a Canadian university due to start in September this year. I am a British citizen and would like to live with him in Canada while he studies (the course is 2 years long). I have looked on the Canadian embassy website, but I cannot figure out whether I will need a temporary resident visa or just a work permit. And how long does the visa and the permit last?

Thanks!

You do not need a temporary resident visa as you are a British citizen (visa-exempt visitor, you can stay for 6 months as a visitor)

You can apply for the working holiday visa which is valid for 1yr.

If you have been living with your boyfriend for 12 months or more, you classify as common law partners and then you can apply for an open spousal work permit, valid for the duration of his studies.

SWAP/BUnac for the UK has closed for non student work permits for this year.
