Hi All,

My parents will be visiting us in Canada on a valid VV from ~15 Dec - ~15 Jan (1 month). We (Me & my wife are expecting a baby in April-May 2026). Both of us are citizens and have stable jobs. My question is, can I start with their supervisa process now, or should I wait till 15 Jan (their return to Canada) to initiate their supervisa process

Would start it asap because it could take months to process.

Thanks for your reply @canuck78 , just to confirm their presence in Canada wont be any issue in supervisa process?

Why don't you extend their stay instead? Or if border officer (at port of entry) did not stamp their passport, apply for extend the stay in March 2026.

hi @steaky they are coming to attend a family ceremony, they have to be back due to medical and other appointments. But even if I apply for extend, the extension for VV is only till the visit (so maybe 6 months or 9), no? I heard ircc doesnt give visas for 10 years now

No it shouldn’t if they still have strong ties to their home country. They also don’t appear to have spent years “visiting” Canada. IRCC can get concerned if it appears parents have moved to Canada and are not visiting. To be fair gvt allowing an up to 5-7 year potential visit has lead to this confusion.
