How long does a DM actually take? I thought it would only take 3-5 months after you sent the Passport, medicals and other documents?
Does anyone know someone who waited more than 6 months?

If the visa office has asked for passport, that means a decision has already been made on the file. I know someone from New Delhi office who has submitted passport in December, but is yet to received it back.

If they had made the decision already either pass or fail before sending the passport request then shouldn't it be processed much more faster? because they already made a decision?
Does it take a year?

Some LVO (ND) requested passport in early stage, but you have to wait for a long time until CIC to finalized the file. Some LVO do not request passport until the final stage (Beijing LVO). All LVO handle files differently. The quota increases for the year of 2012. The number of immigration visa issued to parents will hit the record in history. I'm glad the government speedup the process, especially parents sponsorship is non-economic category. In Australia people to pay $40000 for one parent/person you sponsored. That's $80000 for mom and dad.

CPP-Ottawa is very slow right now. Too many files and medical results were received. Buffalo LVO was closed and all files there were transferred to Ottawa. They will be further delay.

Medical results will be updated 2 months or longer.

Visa Offices in Europe will finalized files in several months. Several people have already got the visa from European LVO.

Who got visas? From which offices? I believe we have heard only about Terri's case? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you. That is what I thougt as well.

Please lets be patient and respectfull of the country, which allowes us to have better life (I was not forced to leave my country, I came to Canada because I saw apportunities here ) which also includes sponsoring our parents. Lets let immigration offices do theyre job and not interupt them. So if I have to wait another 4 years, i will, as I see bringing my parent as a huge bonus. If I have to go back to look after my parent, I will, as coming to Canada was my choice, I knew what I am leaving behind - for a better life, I left my family behind. I dont believe there are many countries that allows to bring your parent. Also I dont think there is a one person in this forum who left home land just because it was better than Canada. I believe all of us came here for better lives, so lets take what is given to us, enjoy it and appreciate the county, and people who live here.

Frankly I am tired of seeing the word discrimination all over this forum. I believe for most of us its a "new" word, so we toss it around without much thought and respect for it. Lets not forget there is not two same cases, all are different, home country is different, each quota is different, and also each local office is working differently maybe with even different work ethics. I agree there might be few cases that needs attention, so please direct those questions to right authorities, and maybe share your story in the forum. But dont be angry, anger is not a friend in this situation. Good luck to all of us!

It's INTENTIONALLY THROTTLED!!!

That is what is meant by 'quota', isn't it? This quota is based on how many immigrants can Canada handle without being too much burdened. There are always pros and cons in any given process. Like wec660 mentioned, some countries charge exorbitant fees to sponsor parents for us its a fraction of that. Lets have patience and see how things turn out. At least Canada is trying to take steps to clear the backlog.

As far as ripe fruit is concerned, while what you said is entirely correct, its us - the fully educated ripe fruits - that made a conscious decision to move to Canada. That's the unfortunate truth.

Let's make the best of the situation by helping and supporting each other to tide over this frustrating wait.

Lastly, despite my best effort not to, I went ahead and checked my e-cas status after 3 days of staying away from it (as usual, there was no updates). I'll have to start another attempt to get e-cas away from my mind for as long as possible.

I know of another person on another forum who got their visa from London on 30th June. They applied in July 2008 to Mississauga.

I believe it might be this

she got it as they don't require counterfoil ( stamp on passport ) - she is UK citizen

@jala25- My ecas is the same: Decision made/application received. My file is in CPP-Ottawa and I have no dependents on my application. Hopefully, we will hear something soon ::)
@sponsorparetns- thanks! I think I will apporach my MP, it's been over 3.5 months now since the file was transferred.

I suggest to do so. When I was inquiring, I was able to get hold of CIC call center agents and got the status. But not anymore, whenever I call, I get a voice saying 'all the agents are busy, call back later'.

My parents just submitted their tourist visa application last June4.. can't wait to hear good news in 2 weeks.. :) In Jesus Name...

Well said Friend, I agree with you. I do not understand why this panic all of sudden and why these cries of foul. I applied in 2007 and still waiting for Visa. Its not like a 2010 applicants are getting and 2008 have not. So people calm down and relax, if you miss your folks, take a plane ticket and go see them, talk to them on phone (international call rates are dirt cheap). And you are here for your own benefit, do not bad mouth the country that provided you with a better life and opportunity. They have to think about the future impact of their decisions as well, it is our children and us who have to take the burden of tax increases that will happen for the health care, pensions for old parents. And think of it this way, our folks will come here and get benefits for health, pensions without having paid for it, so where does the money come from. It comes from hard working Canadians.
