Please note that if you are already in Canada and have valid temporary resident status, you now have the option of obtaining your permanent resident status in Canada as opposed to leaving Canada and re-entering at a port of entry. Please contact CIC's Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100 as soon as possible to arrange an appointment with the nearest Citizenship and Immigration office to your place of residence. (You cannot call this number if you are outside Canada.)

and if the parent does not have an entry visa to the US, how to do the landing?

Today I have time and decided to write to you my virtual friends.
I am in Canada. I came on 2 September.
The flight was very, very long, 9 hours.
At border the officers were very kind and all was done very quickly.
Maybe because my daughter was with me, I don`t know, but it was organized and fast.
Even I had documentation for the container and it was done also very quickly.
So it was really a nice welcome.
My wishes are for all of you who are still waiting to get the visa for your parents and finally to finish that long waiting game.

Welcome to Canada! :)

COPR is most important. It is record of your landing and is needed for your pension when you turn 65..... It is recommended to not fold COPR, as over few year it might tear... Keep it in a file un-folded......

The parent has to live in Canada no less than 10 years to be eligible to apply for pension.

COPR - you'd have got along with Visa. It might have been stapled to passport. I detatched it from passport and have kept it in a safe place since my landing. As it is not a travel document, with the exception of entering from USA by road, so no need to have it attached to your passport. If you are PR, you are good with your PR card.

they ask for it when one applies for citizenship.

Hey guys

I ma not sure if traditional read receipt option works with CIC, when u send them queries by email

I use Google chrome and program called YESWARE which actually tells me if they opened the email or not - its not something they ask for read receipt
See screenshot, very helpful

A trusted friend, relative, or agent may send, through the secure means outlined above, from within India, their passport to our office on their behalf. However, please note that it is the applicant's responsibility to send the passports to our office in adherence with international law and within the deadline which we have given for such submission.

This is a quote from the letter one forum members received from Delhi Consulate

I do not think VFS send back passports by mail
yes they do that's how my parents got there passports back

Raj, In my email reply

The visa(s) can only be issued by the visa office where the application is in process and cannot be transferred to Canada or any other visa office for visa issuance. As well, Indian law prohibits the sending of passports in and out of the country by mail or courier

Was reading Trackit on this issue and found this from 2010

We understand that, if you are currently in India and your application is process elsewhere, you will encounter difficulty trying to send your passport out of India. Since Indian law prohibits the sending of passports in and out of the country by mail or courier, you are advised to personally travel to the country where the Visa Office is situated in order to submit your passport, or to request a trusted person to carry your passport to that country on your behalf. Before choosing the latter option, however, it is essential to check with the Visa Office to find out whether they will accept passports submitted by a representative

Great new raju735. Congratulations!!!

We got AOR in august, but it said the documents were received on May 2012.

Still waiting for approval of sponsorship, almost 2 months after AOR have now passed. Hoping we can hear positively soon.
It sucks to be waiting in stage 1 while most others have already progressed onto stage 2 of the process.
Come on CPC-M, hurry up its been a long wait already. Still gotta deal with local office too
