Our e-file still reads – application received. However, today I got an email which is advising mom to submit her passport at the Canadian embassy in our homeland.
Mom is here in visit. Also, the email indicates the following:
Please note that if you are already in Canada and have valid temporary resident status, you now have the option of obtaining your permanent resident status in Canada as opposed to leaving Canada and re-entering at a port of entry. Please contact CIC's Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100 as soon as possible to arrange an appointment with the nearest Citizenship and Immigration office to your place of residence. (You cannot call this number if you are outside Canada.)

So, my question to you is: Is anyone in the same situation? and if so, Have you been able to book an appointment with the nearest CIC office?
Your help in this matter would be highly appreciated.
Thank you kindly : )

Congrats! Did email came from Ottawa?

Yes?
Anyone can answer my questions?
I suggest you to call the call center and follow the instructions from the agent.

One Immigration Consultant told me "CIC may not do background checks for older parents". Not sure how true it is though.

Sounds toooo good to believe... ::)

I just wish that parents over 70 would be excluded from Background checks, that would reduce the waiting time significantly !

Agent at CIC told me that "once the passport is stamped", then the option is to either
1) Goto US and come back
2) Call Immigration officer to make appt ( the one you got )

But as they said, the stamp had to be done via home country or wherever they have asked - but the re-entry formality can be done by making appt with immigration officer INSIDE Canada

I would still call and confirm

Today I have time and decided to write to you my virtual friends.
I am in Canada. I came on 2 September.
The flight was very, very long, 9 hours.
At border the officers were very kind and all was done very quickly.
Maybe because my daughter was with me, I don`t know, but it was organized and fast.
Even I had documentation for the container and it was done also very quickly.
So it was really a nice welcome.
My wishes are for all of you who are still waiting to get the visa for your parents and finally to finish that long waiting game.

Thanks everyone for your wishes!
In my parents case I noticed the curious thing that they were issued COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residency) document along with their passports visa stamps. That was different but I am glad its a computer generated form with everything very legible. I remember I received COPR when I was landing and my COPR was barely legible from day one. I thought this paper was not useful but apparently its a very important document.

The same was with my visa.
I think it is the procedure.

COPR is most important. It is record of your landing and is needed for your pension when you turn 65..... It is recommended to not fold COPR, as over few year it might tear... Keep it in a file un-folded......

COPR - you'd have got along with Visa. It might have been stapled to passport. I detatched it from passport and have kept it in a safe place since my landing. As it is not a travel document, with the exception of entering from USA by road, so no need to have it attached to your passport. If you are PR, you are good with your PR card.
